Visa requirements

Dear Applicants!

Before applying for visa in the Consular Section of the Embassy:

- fill in required visa application form by following the link  https://visa.kdmid.ru/ and print it out.

- book your appointment in the Consular Section of the Embassy in the  ELECTRONIC APPOINTMENT BOOKING SYSTEM by following the link  http://colombo.kdmid.ru/

Normal visas can be issued within 5 working days (80 USD), Express visas within 1-3 working days (160 USD).

All applicants should file applications personally for visa interview. 

Applications from any tourist agents and authorized persons are not to be  accepted.

Tuesday, Thursday, 09:00 – 13:00.

General Requirements

Regardless of visa category applicant must submit to the Consular section of the Embassy the following documents:

  1. Passport;
  2. One passport sized photo;
  3. Duly filled in visa application form.

Additional documents required when applying for:

1. Invitation (original only) from a Russian business counterpart issued by the Federal Migration Authority of Russia or the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs;

2. Supporting business papers (letter of the company, bank statement, etc may be required).

According the above mentioned visa types similar requirements are applied.

3. Up-to-date HIV Test (duly signed and stamped, original only).

Information only for citizens of Australia:

From 15th June 2012 visa application form for citizens of Australia will be in two pages (when printed out). To ensure a principle of reciprocity citizens of Australia entering Russian Federation for official visit or business purpose will need to submit a detailed curriculum vitae in Russian language only.

Citizens of Sri Lanka and the Republic of Maldives who are close relatives of Russian citizens may apply for an ordinary private single or double entry visa for up to 90 days or a multiple entry visa for up to one year. By close relatives the following categories are meant: spouse, parents (adoptive parents), children (adopted), spouses of children, full or half brothers and sisters, grandfathers, grandmothers, grandchildren.

To apply for a private visa at the request of the relative with Russian citizenship, you must submit:

1. An application of established form, completed on behalf of a citizen of the Russian Federation (notarized according to the Russian legislation if the inviting relative is in Russia);

2. Original and copy of the passport of the citizen of the Russian Federation who submitted the application (notarized according to the Russian legislation if the inviting relative is in Russia);

3. Originals or its notarized in accordance with Russian legislation copies or legalized documents with notarized translation confirming the relationship between the Russian citizen and the applicant (birth certificate, marriage certificate, etc.);

4. A valid passport of a foreign citizen and its copy, in which there are at least 2 blank pages intended for visas, its validity must not expire earlier than 6 months from the date of expiration of the visa. The passport should not raise doubts about the authenticity and belonging to its owner, contain marks, reservations, entries, erasures and corrections that are not certified by the competent authorities of the relevant foreign state, torn or embroidered pages;

5. Completed visa application (questionnaire). The visa application form must be filled out by a foreign citizen in English or Russian on a special website of the Consular Department of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the link https://visa.kdmid.ru/. Answers to the questions of the visa application form must be exhaustive. All columns must be filled in the visa application form. Once completed on the website and printed the visa application form is signed by the applicant personally, the signature should not go beyond the field of the application form reserved for it;

6. A color or black-and-white photograph of 3.5 x 4.5 cm in size, with a clear image of the face in front on a light background without tinted glasses and without a headdress. The photo should be pasted into the visa application form in the field provided for it;

7. Medical insurance policy for the period of the first trip to Russia, but not less than 90 days;

8. Certificate of the absence of HIV infection in a foreign citizen (sample collected no more than 90 days before the date of application) in case of obtaining a multiple-entry visa by spouses of children, full or half brothers and sisters, grandfathers, grandmothers, grandchildren.

2. Up-to-date HIV Test (duly signed and stamped, original only).

2. Up-to-date HIV Test (duly signed and stamped, original only);

3. Duly signed and stamped working contract (employee’s copy), working permit of the Federal Migration Authority of Russia (if issued);

4. Vocational training certificate corresponding to the future employee’s duties according to the contract.

1. Valid visa of the country of the final destination;

2. Confirmed flight itinerary or purchased tickets.

Attention! All citizens of Sri Lanka and the Maldives who travel via Russia en route to neighboring states, including Ukraine, Republic Belarus, Kazakhstan and other CIS countries, should have Russian transit visas.

To apply for a single/double entry tourist visa for up to 3 months or a multiple entry tourist visa for up to 6 months, you must provide:

1. A valid international passport of a foreign citizen and its copy, in which there are at least 2 blank pages reserved for visas, its validity must not expire earlier than 6 months from the date of expiration of the visa. The passport should not raise doubts about the authenticity and belonging to its owner, contain marks, reservations, entries, erasures and corrections that are not certified by the competent authorities of the relevant foreign state, torn or embroidered pages;

2. Completed visa application (questionnaire). The visa application form must be filled out by a foreign citizen in English or Russian on a special website of the Consular Department of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the link https://visa.kdmid.ru/. 3. A color or black-and-white photograph of 3.5 x 4.5 cm in size, with a clear image of the full face on a light background, without tinted glasses and without a headdress. The photo should be pasted into the visa application form in the field provided for it;

4. Medical insurance policy for the period of the first trip to Russia, the dates of which are confirmed by air tickets;

5. Confirmation of the reception of a foreign tourist indicating the registration number of the Russian organizer of the trip (organizations, that are included in the Unified Federal Register of Tour Operators of the Federal Agency for Tourism with confirmed tour operator activity "international inbound tourism", have the right to issue this document) or confirmation of booking a hotel room or other means of accommodation (information about such an institution must be contained in the unified list of classified hotels, ski slopes, beaches approved by the Federal Tourism Agency). In the case of applying for a visa based on confirmation from the hotel, it is possible to issue only a single visa for a period limited by the booking dates.

• The total period of stay in the territory of the Russian Federation with a multiple-entry tourist visa cannot exceed 90 days during each period of 180 days.



Family members of Russia citizens

In view of the changes to the Federal Law "On the procedure of entering and leaving the Russian Federation" on 15th August 1996 № 114-FL effective from 12th March 2010, applications will be accepted from citizens of the Russian Federation lawfully staying in Sri Lanka, to issue visas for members of their families who are foreign nationals (spouses, children under the age of 18, incapacitated children of any age) to enable them to enter the territory of the Russian Federation accompanied by the citizen of the Russian Federation, who signed the visa request form. The applications can only be submitted for the issuance of a single entry/double entry private visa effective for up to 3 months. The minimum time for processing such applications is 5 working days.

Please note that the validity of visa will correspond to the dates specified in the invitation.

Also the following requirements have to be met:

Citizen of the Russian Federation must be present in person at the time of application submission to sign the visa request form. Presence of their family members is not required.

It is necessary to present originals or certified copies of the documents confirming kinship of applicants -citizens of the Russian Federation with the foreign citizens specified in the application - members of their families. These documents are considered as issued by the authorized bodies of the Russian Federation or the foreign state marriage certificate (for spouses), birth/adoption certificate (for minor children), and birth/adoption certificate and the medical certificate confirming incapacity (incapacitated children of any age).

Please note that only legal marriage certificates, issued by governmental authorities, stamped and signed, will be accepted. Unofficial marriage certificates, issued by religious or any other authorities will not be accepted. 

Copies of the valid passport and the proof of stay in Sri Lanka and the Maldives on the lawful basis of applicants.

If the passport with a valid Russian visa has been cancelled, its holder is to apply to the Consular section of the Russian Embassy for the visa transferring into the new passport.

Unless the valid Russian visa is transferred from the cancelled passport into the new one its holder is not permitted to enter the Russian Federation.
